deadduck008 @ Tue ? December : HP Reread Day 4
Because I don't forsee having internet the rest of the day, macro now, thoughts later! ( HP Macro of the Day )But shit son, I have a lot to say about Chapter 19. I know a lot of people say that 'Snape's Worst Memory' is their favorite chapter of the Potter series, but 'The Silver Doe' holds a lot of weight for me.

deadduck008 @ Mon ? December : Good intentions - I had them.
My family is very good at going to the middle of nowhere. We visit Lutsen, Minnesota. We drive one hour further and end up? Middle of Nowhere. We visit Bozeman, Montana. We drive two hours north and end up? In the Middle of Nowhere. We visit Tuscon, Arizona. We drive one hour east and are, you guessed it, in the Middle of Nowhere. And now. WE VISIT SAN FRANCISCO. And subsequently drive four hours east to THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE Nevada. I have no idea why we haven't been called by TLC asking if we would like to host a show called 'THE GREATEST ESCAPE'. Because we would rock that shit. But this little vignette was told because it means I am on a lousy computer with Windows 95 and really, I think if you can pay hormonal 16 year-olds to do your valet parking you can afford some wi-fi in this joint. Which also means I am unable to do the HP Reread: Internet Style, as I had wished. Anyway, back to: THE REREAD ( HP Macro of the Day, yesterday's and today's )

deadduck008 @ Fri ? December : Best Music of '09. Kind of.
It would figure that the two albums I listened to the most this year were not actually produced in 2009. Snow Patrol / A Hundred Million Suns.rar (2008) Frightened Rabbit / The Midnight Organ Fight.rar (2008)
Though I do enjoy how the Black Eyed Peas can get away with singing one sentence for an entire song and by the end you're like, HEY GUYS, GUESS WHAT? I GOTTA FEELING! These bands have got some pretty sweet lyrics. And for some reason no matter how many times I hear them they still surprise me. (Then again, it could be because the rest of the time I'm listening to 'rah rah oh la la, want your bad romance'.) For example: Put the wall clock in the top drawer / Turn off the lights so we can see We will waltz across the carpet / 1, 2, 3, 2, 2, 3Old Old Fashioned, Frightened Rabbit I'm a sucker for music references WITHIN music. 3/4 time rocks! I said I knew the beat because it matched your own beat / It's become my engine my own source of heat The sea between us only amplifies the sound waves / Every hum and echo and crash paints my caveIf There's A Rocket Tie Me To It, Snow Patrol Snow Patrol is always telling a story. And it's always a very sad one about two people who can't be together. More like Emo Patrol, eh? Sidebar! My favorite lyric of all time (yes, there will be a test on this) remains: Science will just have to surrender to faith 'cause I won't let you downLet's See It, We Are Scientists
jacyevans @ Fri ? December :
I am currently procrastinating. I really, really, REALLY do not want to go to work today. I kind of just want to cheat and skip to the going out after. Is that okay? That's allowed, right? No? Damn it. I declare this an official day off. Everyone go back to bed!

deadduck008 @ Wed ? December : Or am I?
It's things like this that make me feel like perhaps I should be locking these entries. And then I figure, heck, if they wanted to catch me for something they would've done it by now. AM I RIGHT? Besides, violence is never the answer. Passive-aggressive notes are. Preferably on color-coordinated post-its. I would probably be the neatest, most organized bank robber ever. (JUST KIDDING FUTURE EMPLOYER/F.B.I./MOM.) P.S. marcasite WINS for having the most adorable holiday cards I've ever seen. Even though I didn't know how to open it. I can appreciate things I don't understand! I'm still deeply impressed by the aesthetics.

anythingbutgrey @ Mon ? December : Twilight - I Want to See the Sun Rise Anywhere But Here (1/2)
Title: I Want to See the Sun Rise Anywhere But Here (1/2) Ship ( Fandom): Jacob/Bella ( Twilight) A/N: Many many many many thanks to snowfire for being my beta, cheerleader, and co-fangirl in arms. The title is from The Rescues' Break Me Out. This is an AU fic set in the middle of New Moon. The line "as strong as the sun, as necessary" is a section of a quote from Jeanette Winterson's Lighthousekeeping. None of this business belongs to me. The second part to this will be posted early next week. Promise. Summary: Her hands are shaking at her sides, but he knows can’t go with her. He knows can’t say yes. It doesn’t matter how much he needs her or how much this terrifies him. He doesn’t know if by “this” he means Bella or the wolf. AU. deadduck008 @ Mon ? December : Family is just people you live with. Sometimes.
This morning (or last night, or wee hours if you want to get literary) at 1:30am my brother decided it would be a good idea to belt out, I'VE BEEN LOOKING AROUND I'VE BEEN LOOKING DOWN AND ALL I SEE. Belting is a kind term. Caterwauling is more realistic. Oh. Heck. No. (The entry tag will serve to double this sentiment.) If there was ever a time not to get down with Kings of Leon, it is 1:30am. I like some good angst as much as the next person but there are limits to the emotional catharsis I can withstand under great sleep duress. (Translation: Insom nom nomnia Zom nom nombie will 'USE SOMEBODY' TO EFF YOU UP.) I slammed the palm of my hand (thanks, self-defense classes!) against the wall adjoining our rooms until he went silent. And yet, I can only assume he continued brooding, humming 'Boston' to himself under the covers. Also! The Holiday Love Meme? Is making me all mushy inside, like the center of undercooked cookies, or oatmeal. You, to quote the Cars, are just what I needed.
anythingbutgrey @ Mon ? December :
i am reading purity myth by jessica valenti. i am about to have a heart attack over facts i already know. but i just read something i did not know. i did know, "The US Department of Justice estimates that 1 in 5 college women will be raped at some point during a five-year college career." i did know, "about 9 out of 10 times, the victim will know her assailant." i did not know, "half of all victims will not call what happened rape." this exactly mirrors a Huge Epic Loud fight I had with my father this summer about those feminists and their falsified rape statistics. maybe i should get him purity myth and this book for hannukah. happy new year, dude. discuss.

deadduck008 @ Sun ? December : L, is for the way you look at me
Fun story: I tried to track the comments on a thread at the holiday love meme and subsequently discovered I had accidentally tracked all the comments on the entry. ABORT MISSION, REPEAT, ABORT! Sorry inbox, my bad. Holiday Love Meme >> my threadI was going to say something else but like, an entirely self-serving entry is fun too, right? Make your own thread, yo, so I can practice my complimentary skills just in time for the holiday thank-you-notes. (Because I'm totally going to tell my second cousin things like, 'YOU AND I PUT THE "WE" IN AWESOME!')

jacyevans @ Sat ? December : This is not what I needed right now
So, a while ago, the enamel on my tooth chipped and I went to the dentist to get it filled. This was maybe... a year or so ago now. A few minutes ago, the filling popped out. It's felt loose and weird the past few weeks, and I suppose I should have gone to the dentist when my prescription for the toothpaste/mouthwash she gave me the last time ran out, or when it started to feel loose, but I really hate doctors, and my dentist always seems to find a reason to yell at me. So now, there's a giant hole in my tooth that doesn't hurt, per se, but I know it's there and that it shouldn't be there and I haven't tried eating yet, but I'm going to guess it won't be happy fun times. Did I mention that my health insurance doesn't cover dental? Because it doesn't. The last time, the visit cost me $130 bucks I didn't have to get the work done. I'm hoping the receptionist is nice enough to give me a break this time, too - not that I have $130 this time, either, but I'm guessing that's still better than the full price of the visit. Why is it that every time I have my finances under control, even for a little while, something happens to fuck them over again? Christmas is coming and so are my loans for this month, and now I have to dig into my savings fund - the money that's supposed to be towards my future apartment/vacations next year, depending on which one I decide to dip into. At this rate, I might as well close the Alaska fund, I already used almost half towards loans when I lost my job back in May. To say this blows would be an understatement.

deadduck008 @ Thu ? December : Also, I nearly froze to death. Unimportant.
I will preface this post by saying I am usually on the unrequited end of a relationship because that is what I am good at and you should really stick with things you excel in. I met up with a friend who is so close to gay he cries 3 out of 5 times he watches 'Love, Actually' and together we went shopping in downtown Chicago. While he was busy trying on loafers and I was busy wondering who told the salesman it was a good idea to tuck his scarf into his shirt, he casually mentioned a friend of his was meeting up with us and oh, by the way, hold on to your frost-bitten hat, he might like you. What? Who is this person? Wait, is this even a person? Don't joke with me, I may not be able to feel my fingers but this will only make it easier to punch you through your man-peacoat. Apparently, this guy tried to facebook-stalk me last night and apparently when this was impossible (I am unsearchable, part of the ninja-effect), he found a friend who knew me and used his account to stalk. This is the part in the movie when the music goes all Danny Elfman and the theater feels colder. So we met up with this guy and he was fine and normal (translation: not my type). However, the day was re-corrected by my coffee date with a nerdy, entirely unattainable guy (exactly my type) who leaves tomorrow for New Jersey to blind the world with his science. And so, the universe was made right once more.

jacyevans @ Wed ? December : so they say it's your birthday
First off, thank you to maerhys for the cupcake and this wonderful fic, to americonedream for the lovely card, and to everyone for the birthday wishes ♥ ♥ Today was actually a pretty laid back day, but I went out last night, and am going out on Saturday with my friends, so I'm okay with that. I took the day off - which in and of itself was a gift - and while most of the day was spent at home, I did take myself to the movies this afternoon, just to get out of the house for a while. I saw New Moon and was one of all of four people in the theater. I think I enjoyed it more this go-round than last. I had dinner and did cake and presents with the family, and am now going to chill out and write for a while before heading off to bed (work tomorrow, ugh - at least the department Christmas party means I have an excuse to slack off in the afternoon, heh.) <3 you all
